The brothers from Franklin, Ohio, revive a song issued in the UK by the Brook Brothers in 1962. It was an entry in the UK’s Song For Europe that year but lost out to Ronnie Carroll’s “Ring A Ding Girl”, which finished 4th in the ensuing Eurovision Song Contest.
A US cover of a Brook Brothers’ song was in stark contrast to the Brooks covering US material; all of their 5 UK hits were covers of US songs such as “Warpaint” and “Trouble Is My Middle Name”.
The first US cover of "Tell Tale" was by Anita & The So & So's" on RCA in 1962.
Gary & The Hornets offered their version as the flip of a Bacharach-(Mack) David-Williams song, “Baby It’s You”, a #8 hit for the Shirelles in 1962.
The group charted with the first of their four outings on Smash, “Hi Hi Hazel”, a song also recorded by the Troggs and Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band.
