Early Bird was written by Joe Meek on the occasion of the launch this momentous satellite in May 1965, it was the world's first commercial, geosynchronous telecommunications satellite, later renamed Intelsat.
Early Bird reached no.49 in the Melody Maker charts and no.28 in Radio London's Fab 40. Joe Meek was expecting it to become another Telstar and put the Tornados back on top of the charts. Reviews by the music critics were very favourable. But the Merseysound had completely taken over the music scene by then.
