"Ice Cream Man" was released in May 1963. Heinz was still with the Tornados when "Ice Cream Man" was recorded for the film "Farewell Performance" but had left the group by the time it was released as a single. Tab Martin of the "Saints" was a temporary stand-in until Heinz's successor Brian Gregg was appointed.

Brian was with the Tornados for only three months before being replaced in August 1963 by Ray Randall who remained with the Tornados until January 1966.
"Ice Cream Man" reached no.18 in the UK charts and remained on chart for 9 weeks.
