Hailing from Latta, South Carolina, Chuck Jackson sung with the "other" Del-Vikings from 1959 to 1960. Encouraged to sing solo by Jackie Wilson and signed to Scepter's new Wand label late in 1960. "I don't Want To Cry" was Chuck Jackson's first attempt at Scepter Records and was a hit on the pop charts. The song was formally used as an introduction to the buying public. Released in January 1961, it quickly moved up on the pop charts.
