Peter Asher and Gordon Waller were "Peter & Gordon", a British recording that had a direct relationship with Paul McCartney. This was based upon the fact that Peter's sister Jane was Paul's girlfriend for five years, commencing in 1963. Peter and Gordon were the first recording artists to record and release several hit songs written by McCartney, but songs which were never recorded and released by The BeaTles. This included "A World Without Love" which was released in February, 1964; the same month that The BeaTles first arrived in the United States. That song reached the No. 1 position on the music charts in England and the United States. The McCartney song "Nobody I Know" reached No.12 in the United States. The McCartney song "I Don't Want To See You Again" reached No.16 in the United States. The McCartney song "Woman" was issued under the composer's pseudonym of Bernard Webb to determine if Peter and Gordon could achieve another chart success without using Paul's real name. That song reached No.14 in the United States. Peter and Gordon also recorded and released "I Go to Pieces" which was No.7 on the United States charts, and was written by Del Shannon. Shannon gave the song to Peter and Gordon after they toured together. Shannon also occupies a unique position in BeaTles history by being the only artist to record and release a BeaTles song before the BeaTles recorded and released their own music.
"From Me To You" was recorded and released by Del Shannon in June, 1963, prior to The BeaTles releasing it in the United States. One month later, Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas released the Lennon penned "Bad To Me" in England.
Gordon Waller died on July 17, 2009. Peter Asher, a very successful record producer, continues to perform.
