"Crazy Baby" by The Coasters

The Coasters are a doo wop group that rose out of The Robins, a Los Angeles based R&B group, when several members left to form another band. The Robins had had a partnership with the songwriting team Leiber-Stoller on their Sparks Records and that crossed over to the Coasters and translated to an immediate success. Their style of good-natured "storytelling" songs led to a string of chart-topping hits in the 1950s such as "Down In Mexico" and "Yakety Yak". However, their immense popularity in the 1950s died down in the 1960s due to lineup changes and a shift in popular tastes. The group continued to record with Atco in the early 1960s and it was there that in 1965 they released "Crazy Baby", with the driving beat and fast-pace loved by the Northern Soul Scene. They also had a brief stint on Columbia Records' Date label with Leiber-Stoller again. The group slowly stopped recording and many of the original members met tragic ends. But in 1987, The Coasters became the first group ever inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with the original members receiving the credit. The group is still around with two original members and often appear on "oldies" shows and PBC specials and they do accept bookings.
