I don't know why more folks haven't covered Willie Mitchell's "I Don't Know Why" — I can find only a few versions. What I do know is that O.V. Wright's rendition is one of sexiest tracks ever recorded. O.V. Wright always sang with a passionate urgency that fell somewhere between Sam Cooke and Otis Redding. That's especially evident on Wright's bluesy reading of "Let's Straighten It Out," which I think is one of the great recordings in soul history.
