I would like to say Howard Tate was widely recognised by the public for his breath taking talent and contribution to soul music, I would like to say his records sold millions and he now lives a happy and fulfilled life with a big fat grin on his face. Alas, after his death on Friday neither of the former comments are true, in reality Howard Tate spent most of his life with the spotlight undeservedly turned away from his music. Although held in high regard by critics, his records-sadly-were virtually ignored by listeners and he only ever managed a top 20 hit in the late 60's. Now tragically only after his passing are people starting to realise how big an influence he had on the soul movement of the late 20th century. I'm not going to lie and pretend to you that I'd heard of Tate before today, that I was devout fan and that I'm angry that many of you reading never knew who he was, because I didn't. But I can certainly take some time to learn about this guys life and appreciate a man who throughout his life was largely unappreciated.
I've put a link (BELOW) that takes you to a small biography of his life. If your not convinced by this post just listen to the track below-an outstanding cover of Dylans 'Girl From The North Country'- and you'll see what we're talking about.
